The Whisky Jury â Many Faces of Rum â Undisclosed Caribbean 1978
44 yo / 56.6%
Region: Caribbean
Cask: Refill barrel
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Very Guyana, walnuts and pecans, caramel, chocolate mousse, crÚme brûlée, chocolate whipped latte
Palate & Finish: Whoa, I dig this. Tons of crÚme brûlée, hazelnut latte, chocolate up front, then a flash of red fruits, ripe plum, raisins, espresso beans, it's fruity but covered in chocolate and dark notes. Finish is espresso, slightly peppery but not overly so, cocoa, French silk pie, sweetened black coffee
Thoughts: âPlum and Walnut Bruleeâ I had no idea what to expected with a rum like this. I tend to be a bit oak adverse so 44 years felt likely to be an oak monster for me. Not so much in reality, this thing has a lot going on. The first thing I noticed was the nutty and earthy influenced layered with some slightly funky red fruits. The mouthfeel is creamy and rich, adding to an almost dessert like quality. The fruit balances the dessert out nicely though keeping it from going over the edge of too desserty for me. Aspects of this are familiar and almost Guyana like for me but the plum, raisins, and dried nuts add a layer of complexity I really enjoy. Itâs a fun rum to experience and definitely surprised me how much I enjoyed it.
